The Friends of
Mount Elizabeth (FOME) is a non-profit volunteer
organization dedicated to the restoration and
preservation of the historic Mansion at Tuckahoe. The
name of the organization is taken from Mt. Elizabeth,
which is the Indian midden on which The Mansion sits,
overlooking the beautiful Indian River.
When completed, the county-owned Mansion at Tuckahoe
will be a public venue for social, cultural and business
events, as well as a site for historical interpretation
of The Mansion, Mount Elizabeth and the surrounding
area.
Since its inception in 2001, the Friends of Mount
Elizabeth has been instrumental in garnering public
interest and support and the support of state and local
legislators, businesses, foundations, community leaders
and the residents of Martin County to secure state
grants, endowments, contributions and the passage of a
County Referendum to fund the restoration of The Mansion
at Tuckahoe.
It is the goal of FOME to continue assisting Martin
County by obtaining funds to enhance the restoration,
preservation and operation of The Mansion and to fully
develop The Mansion as a self-sustaining entity through
usage fees so that the taxpayers of Martin County will
not be responsible for The Mansion’s operating costs.
